Mixing

Mixing is the process of putting together pieces of audio tracks, like vocals, instruments, and effects, into a united and balanced stereo or multichannel mix.

Think of putting together a sub-way sandwich, each layer represents a different audio track, from vocals to instruments to effects. And you need the right amount of each to get a wicked taste. The vocals would be the meat, the effects would be the salad and sauce and the instrumental would be the bun to hold it together.

What you don’t want is too much bun, a sloppy slab of meat, a heap of salad or it drowning in sauce. I’m painting that picture to show you everything needs a good amount of each part for the mix to blend well, you can’t have too much of one thing. And like making food you want to continue tasting it and listening to the track, making adjustments adding some salt here, some pepper there and seeing that one thing doesn’t overpower the other.

And what we’ll be adjusting are the volume levels, panning (placement of sound in the stereo field), equalization (EQ), dynamics processing (compression, limiting, etc.), and spatial effects (reverb, delay, etc.). The actual mission of creating the mix that sends shockwaves through streaming platforms is one that takes deep detail and expertise to put out a tune that’s clear, balanced and engaging to capture your audience and have them burning for more!

Recording

In the wild world of music engineering, recording is where the magic begins. It's the art of capturing those sweet, soul-stirring sounds and bringing them to life.

So when you’re in the studio, armed with the perfect microphone, in the zone, positioned and ready to shell out your lyrics, we are on the other end having to channel that audio through top-notch gear, dialling in the perfect levels and ensuring that each note hits with power and clarity. So you can bet your house there’ll be no weak signals or muddled mixes. It just doesn’t happen!

Now it’s about searching for that magical performance that sends shivers down your spine. It doesn’t matter how many takes you need, you only need one take that slaps. Don’t be afraid to push boundaries, experimenting with layers and overdubs to create an artistic masterpiece that'll have the studio room bouncing. That’s when you know it’s worth it.

Next is editing and processing. This is where we take those raw tracks and shape them into something extraordinary. We cut out any imperfections like unwanted noise, adjust timing or pitch, then enhancement of the dynamics to smash the desired goal we are aiming for.

Mastering

This is the final and EQUALLY as important step in the audio production process which is the very last step between what happens in the studio and what’s heard in the ears of your audience.

Here we prepare that hot plate of musical magic (that has been mixed), to be served out across different playback systems. And it’s the last step which signs and seals its consistency and compatibility with those playback systems.

The mastering engineer uses specialized tools and techniques to squeeze out the remaining juices of the overall sound quality, clarity, and loudness of the track. This is fine-tuning the frequency response, dynamics, stereo imaging, and overall tonal balance.

We may apply various technical processes, such as equalization, compression, stereo enhancement, and noise reduction, to achieve a professional sound without a smudge to give it the edge it needs to prove almost faultless.
